May 2013 Meeting

The May meeting of Laydeez do Comics Chicago welcomed wardrobe-coordinated comics creators Sarah Morton and Tyrell Cannon to Quimby’s.

SarahTyrell

Sarah presented her multiple comics projects, which are rooted in an education in journalism and urban planning.

Tyrell presented on his broad career in comics, which includes various experimentations with the comic form, his Simon character, his book Gary, and his new release for CAKE, Victus.

April 2013 Meeting

The April meeting of Laydeez do Comics Chicago starred cartoonists Jeffrey Brown and Sharon Rosenzweig. Our guest blogger for April is Sarah Morton. Our second presenter is Sharon Rosenzweig who presented three distinct projects. First, The Comic Torah which she did in collaboration with her husband, Aaron Freeman. Next she presented her work as an “investigative cartoonist” documenting the Occupy Movement. Finally she presented her comic project, “Mom’s Flock” which will appear in Greenwoman Magazine and on the Graphic Medicine website. “Drawing makes me fall in love with people.”

March 2013 Meeting

Our first speaker for March was John Porcellino. He spoke of what he calls his “psychic punctuation” and his punk/DIY philosophy. He also performed a creator’s close reading of one of his poetic comics, “Ant Crossing.” (Click on images to enlarge.)

Our second speaker was Riva Lehrer. She discussed the ethical structure she establishes for her portrait collaborations, and showed many examples of her work.
